Title and Abstract

The Hungarian Heritage Center of New Brunswick: Documenting a Piece of Hungarian America in New Jersey

The Hungarian Heritage Center houses the library, archives, and museum of the American Hungarian Foundation in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Founded at Elmhurst College in Illinois at the end of 1954, the Foundation moved to New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1959 and opened its Heritage Center there in 1989. Due to the religious affiliation of its founder and director until 2010, August J. Molnar, the publications and manuscripts are strong in Hungarian American Protestant materials, while the museum has a superlative collection of Hungarian American art. Collaborations with Rutgers University and the Hungarian government have facilitated access to the collections.
