Title: Incorporating AI Generative Models into Teaching Information and Data Literacy: Pedagogical Strategies for Academic Librarians.

Presenter: Jonathan Torres

Abstract:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) generative models transform how college students learn and retrieve information. This technological advancement has also impacted how professors teach their courses, making it difficult to distinguish between AI-generated assignments and those created by students. The significant changes in how students seek information have prompted academic librarians to consider how they can integrate AI tools into information and data literacy.

In this presentation, Jonathan will share pedagogical strategies to highlight the benefits and drawbacks of ChatGPT, Bard, and other AI generative models. Furthermore, he will explain how he has leveraged AI tools to teach information and data literacy, using examples to differentiate between trustworthy and unreliable sources. His presentation will highlight the significance of academic librarians keeping up with the latest advancements in AI technology in higher education.
