Colombian Women Writers from the 19th Century

Introducing some of the women pioneers of writing in Colombia

Silveria Espinosa de Rendon

Born: 20 January 1815
Died: 16 August 1886

Silveria Espinosa de Rendon was a poet and Colombian journalist. Her family ran La Imprenta Granadina, a newspaper which in 1776 was designated for official publications. Educated in the intellectual environment of Santa Fe from her youth, Silveria showed interest in literature and poetry. Soon, her work transcended the circle of friends and was published in national newspapers such as La Garlanda, El Papel Periódico ilustrado, La Caridad,  and La Lira Granadina. She was the first Colombian woman poet recognized and published in Europe.

Vivir?, vivir?

¿Vivir?
