Colombian Women Writers from the 19th Century

Introducing some of the women pioneers of writing in Colombia

Agripina Samper Agudelo

Born: 4 March 1833
Died: 22 April 1892

 As a member of a literary family, Agripina Samper Agudelo received an education not easily accessible to women of her time in Colombia. She wrote prose and poetry under the pseudonym “Pia-Rigan”, an anagram of her given name. Her work remained unpublished during her lifetime and was only anthologized and published posthumously.

Con timido fulgor;
Dime: cuando los arboles fantasticos se mecen,
Temblantes extendiendo sus sombras en los prados,
I escapesa a lo lejos de sones acordados
Dulcisimo rumor;
Lejana tempestad

"En la Noche"
