Micromedex Assistant

Micromedex has introduced an AI-powered chat assistant, the Micromedex Assistant, which allows you to ask natural-language queries and receive answers generated from Micromedex content. Micromedex Support says you may ask the Micromedex Assistant questions about:

  • Drug classes
  • FDA-approved and off-label indications
  • Dosing and indications
  • IV compatibility
  • Medication safety
  • Mechanism of action
  • Pharmacokinetics and drug interactions

When you open Micromedex, the Micromedex Assistant is available on the lower right side of the homepage:

Select the Micromedex assistant to expand it. A chatbox will open with some example questions. You may select one of the examples or you may enter your own question:

After you enter your question, the Micromedex Assistant will attempt to answer your question based on the data on which it is trained in Micromedex.

Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the chatbox to view its full response. At the end of its response, there will be a link or links to the Micromedex content it used to generate the answer (these links are circled in orange in the image below):

You should select those links and check the original sources to make sure the Micromedex Assistant interpreted them accurately. You can ask followup questions or select Clear to chat about a new topic.

Micromedex does not use interactions with the tool to train LLMs. Their clinical quality team may review the questions that users submit and the responses that AI provides in order to check the quality of AI responses. No user data is associated with the questions aside from institution name, and all question data is deleted on a monthly basis.
