Factiva has introduced a Smart Summary feature as part of its new interface. When you enter a query into the new interface's search box, the Smart Summary feature uses retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and a secured instance of Google Gemini LLM to generate a summary based on Factiva news sources that it matches to your query. To determine which sources to use, Factiva ranks potential articles using factors like topic relevance, recency, article quality, and source credibility. The AI then selects the three most relevant articles from this ranked list to generate the summary. The Smart Summary includes Key Points, an Overview, and an optional Deeper Analysis.
Please note that not all Factiva news sources are used to generate summaries. Only the news sources Factiva was able to license for use with Generative AI are used to generate the Smart Summaries, so it is a good idea to check the longer list of Factiva results below the summary to look for relevant sources that were not used to generate the summary.
When you run a search in the new Factiva interface, Factiva will create a Smart Summary, which is displayed above your search results. By default, the Key Points section of the Smart Summary is displayed:

To see a paragraph overview, select the Overview option at the bottom of the Smart Summary box:

In both the Key Points and Overview sections, you may select the Sources dropdown to view and link to the Factiva sources used to generate the Smart Summary:

The Key Points and Overview features use up to 5 articles to generate their responses. You may select the Deeper Analysis option to view a more detailed analysis generated from a greater number of articles:

Deeper Analysis will produce a lengthier response citing up to 20 articles:

The full citations list with links to the articles in Factiva is available at the bottom of the Deeper Analysis.
Factiva is using a secure instance of Google Gemini LLM, and your search queries are not used to train LLMs. Smart Summary is only available in the new Factiva interface; it is not available in the classic Factiva interface.
