The ballad of Little Jo 2003

Based on a true story, this is the tale of Josephine Monaghan, a young woman of the mid-19th century who is thrown out of her parents' home after being seduced by the family's portrait photographer and giving birth to an illegitimate child. Josephine quickly learns that young, female, pretty, and alone are a bad combination for life in the wild west. In her desperation to survive, Josephine disguises herself as "Jo", a young man, and struggles to make a life for herself in a dingy frontier mining town. El topo c2007

After coming upon the scene of a horrifying massacre, roaming gunslinger El Topo demands justice. He learns that the atrocity was committed by someone named The Colonel, and after tracking down the villain and his equally vile men, the mystery man murders them all. A young woman is so grateful to be released from the Colonel's bondage that she agrees to ride with El Topo. But she does not love him and will only pledge her devotion if he kills the four greatest guns in the desert. One by one, El Topo finds the fiends and destroys them. But he is eventually double-crossed, finding himself left for dead among an underground collective of deformed freaks. Vowing to change his ways, he commits to building a tunnel between the cave and the local town. Little does he know that the people in the surrounding village purposefully shunned these lost souls and will do anything--including murder--to keep them away. 1 videodisc (124 min.)

Fort Apache 1948, 1985

A demoted Civil War colonel is sent to command the frontier regiment Fort Apache. The colonel's harsh attitude toward the Indians conflicts withe attitude of cooperation expressed by his second in command, Captain York, and the regiment. The climax of the film, the massacre of the regiment, is depicted as the result of the colonel's arrogance and betrayal of the Apache by a venal government agent. The romantic sub-plot involves the colonel's daughter and a young lieutenant of the regiment. 1 videocassette (127 min.)

Go west c2004

In Go West: It's 1870 and the Marx Brothers are out to get rich in Dead Man's Gulch. In The Big store: The Brothers reduce an enormous inventory of upscale merchandise into a multilevel disaster as they pursue and evade villains via bicycles, skates, unicycles, broad jumps, shipping chutes, elevator cables, high wires, pole vaults and pseudo-Tarzan chandelier swinging. 1 videodisc (163 min.)

Johnny Guitar 2012, 1954

Saloon owner Vienna battles the local townspeople headed by Emma, the local sexually repressed, lynch-happy female rancher out to frame her for a string of robberies. Johnny Logan is a guitar-strumming drifter with a dark past who was once in love with Vienna and has been offered a job in her saloon. Nicholas Ray's epic western is considered one of the most original westerns of all time. The women are far tougher than the men and some saw a bizarre allegory for the McCarthy era Red Scare. 1 videodisc (110 min.)

Kansas raiders: Outraged by Redleg atrocities, the James and Younger Brothers along with Kit Dalton join Quantrill's Raiders and find themselves participating in even worse war crimes. Lawless breed: After being released from prison, ex-gunfighter John Wesley Hardin hopes to have his autobiography published in order to rehabilitate his tarnished reputation. 1 videodisc (164 min.)

Over the coming days, the emigrants face the scourges of hunger, thirst, and their own lack of faith in each other's instincts for survival. Texas rangers: Two down-on-their-luck former outlaws volunteer to be Texas Rangers and find themselves assigned to bring in an old friend, now a notorious outlaw. Canyon passage: Businessman Logan Stuart is torn between his love of two very different women in 1850's Oregon and his loyalty to a compulsive gambler friend who goes over the line. 1 videodisc (190 min.)

Needing to keep his honor-bound commitment, Texas ranch foreman Pete returns the body of illegal Mexican immigrant ranch-hand Melquiades Estrada to his preferred resting place in the Mexican wilderness. Estrada had been accidentally shot by Mike, a newly-arrived U.S. border patrolman. Pete forces Mike to participate in his cross-country ritual of duty -- a voyage filled with revenge and redemption that will change both men forever -- and bring some semblance of meaning to the senseless death of Pete's good friend. 1 videodisc (ca. 121 min.)

Aided by his pretty girlfriend, a stable home is provided for young Betty. Ted soon learns that Betty's dad was murdered because he possessed valuable railroad maps. A crooked land speculator and his gang want the maps and take Betty hostage. Outraged, Ted saddles up with guns loaded to save his young charge and bring the crooks to justice. 1 videodisc (52 min.)

Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross sets out to capture the killer. To aid her, she hires the toughest U.S. marshal she can find, a man with "true grit," Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn. Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally reprobate character do not augment her faith in him. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes. The unlikely trio find danger and surprises on the journey, and each has his or her "grit" tested. 1 videodisc (110 min.)
