Interprofessional Education

TeamSTEPPS is an evidence-based set of teamwork tools, aimed at optimizing patient outcomes by improving communication and teamwork skills among health care professionals. It is AHRQ’s signature curriculum to improve patient safety by training health care teams to communicate and practice effective teamwork.

Major Contents

Several versions of TeamSTEPPS are available, along with individual modules related to specific audiences, settings, or situations, including TeamSTEPPS for Office-Based Care Version, eamSTEPPS® 2.0 for Long-Term Care, TeamSTEPPS® Dental Module, Patients With Limited English Proficiency, TeamSTEPPS® Rapid Response Systems Guide, etc. All are available online. TeamSTEPPS 2.0 is the core curriculum. It helps you train your staff in teamwork skills and lead a medical teamwork improvement initiative in your organization from initial concept development through to sustainment of positive changes. This version of the TeamSTEPPS 2.0 curriculum can be used for self-paced learning and for training others. This curriculum was adapted from a multimedia interactive course that included audio and animation. It has been converted to a PowerPoint presentation with transcript of the audio available in the Notes, including fundamentals and supplemental modules

TeamSTEPPS® 2.0 Online Master Trainer Course

TeamSTEPPS has been used by healthcare professionals across the United States. The research describes some of the approaches used to implement TeamSTEPPS as well as evaluation efforts to quantify or qualify the impact of using TeamSTEPPS in specific settings of care, including primary care, emergency care, physician/nurse collaboration, etc. Please check TeamSTEPPS®: Research/Evidence Base for details.
