U.S. Southwest through the novels of Karl May

Karl May (1842-1912) was a German author renowned for his work of fiction on American West. Most Americans have never heard of him, but May created iconic characters, including Native Americans and European immigrants, disseminating the romanticized view of the region. His work has been translated in many languages. This New Yorker article "Wild West Germany" provides more information on May, the author, and the enduring fascination of Native Americans by Europeans.

This list presents select books authored by May in RUL collection.
