Welcome to Your Flipped Lesson!


What is a flipped lesson?

A flipped lesson is designed to introduce you to content prior to an in-class lesson. The advantage of presenting you with concepts and tools prior to your class session with a librarian is that the librarian can spend less time talking at you (lecturing) and more time in dialogue with you, answering your questions, and guiding you through activities.

What will I need to do?

To complete this lesson, you will watch four short videos. In each video, you will encounter questions that must be answered before you can continue watching. Some questions are meant to reinforce information presented in the video, some questions will walk you through research skill steps, and many questions will ask you to reflect upon your thoughts and practices. These reflective questions are designed to build your metacognition skills – your awareness about your thinking.

Why am I doing this?

The purpose of the videos and questions is to help you to further develop the research skills required for this class and all your academic pursuits, as well as the critical stance required for your interactions with information in and out of the academic setting.


Step-by-Step Lesson Instructions

  • Watch the video, “The Experience of the Research Process” answering the questions in the video.
  • Prepare your answer for Discussion Question #1 which you will post in Canvas at the end of this lesson.

2. Go to the Finding Sources pageHERE

  • Scan the page.
  • Watch the video, “Finding Resources Using the Library Website” answering the questions in the video.
  • Prepare your answer for Discussion Question #2 which you will post in Canvas at the end of this lesson.

3. Go to the Finding Statistics pageHERE

  • Scan the page.
  • Watch the video, “Introduction to Finding & Using Statistics” answering the questions in the video.
  • Prepare your answer for Discussion Question #3 which you will post in Canvas at the end of this lesson.

4. Go to The Scholarly Conversation pageHERE

  • Scan the page.
  • Watch the video, “The Scholarly Conversation & Citation Chase Challenge.” In addition to the two in-video questions, this video walks you through completing a citation chase.
  • Prepare your answer for Discussion Question #4 which you will post in Canvas at the end of this lesson.
  • Citation Chase Challenge: Post in Canvas your One Great Article citation, reference list citation, and a Cited by article citation (if you found one relevant to your topic).
