Systematic Reviews in the Health Sciences

This guide will introduce you to the Systematic Review process.

Establish a Research Team

Systematic reviews must be undertaken by at least two reviewers, usually by a multidisciplinary team to minimize bias and achieve objectiveness and rigor. The team may include:

  • Subject experts with knowledge of the topic area.
  • An SR-trained librarian or information specialist with skills in developing a search strategy and performing comprehensive searches.
  • Statisticians with knowledge of the statistical methods and analysis experience.
  • A project manager who keeps track of the whole process and assigns roles and responsibilities to ensure efficiency and accountability.
