Nick Virgilio Haiku Archive

Use this guide to access the digitized files of the Nick Virgilio Haiku Archive, housed at the Paul Robeson Library, Rutgers University - Camden

Notes on the Collection

This guide focuses on the print version of this collection. All of the contents have been digitized and can be searched for specific words. This allows researchers to find haiku on particular topics of interest. To search the online archive, use this link https://collections.libraries.rutgers.edu/nicholas-virgilio-papers

The pages, with rare exception, do not not have any date on them, so they are arranged by what is on the back.  Nick Virgilio would often pick up scrap paper and type on the back of it, so the pages are grouped by what is on the other side of the sheet.  Where possible a date or date range has been located for information on the verso; that will allow researchers to know that the poems on those pages were created after that date.  Some pages just have haiku on them, but the verso pages that are in the collection are:

1092 Niagara -- This grouping just has Virgilio's address on the back, as if it were stationery, but created on his typewriter.

Rhistoric Publications -- This is an advertisement for a book published in 1970

Visiting Team Roster -- There are ads for four car dealerships on the back of these sheets.  The newest dealership opened in 1966; the first one to close did so in 1975.

Coca-Cola --
