Terms to Know

  • Course Reserves: Textbooks, book chapters, DVDs, and other materials set aside by your professor for your course. These materials are kept on reserve in the library for students to use for a 2-hour time period. 
  • QuickSearch: The search bar on the library homepage that searches a majority of the library collections. This is where you search for books.
  • Database: Subscription-based resource available to Rutgers students. This is where you search for journal articles or peer-reviewed/scholarly articles. 
  • Subject Specialist: A librarian assigned to a designated subject area to help faculty and students with their research.
  • Circulation Desk: The first desk you see when you enter the library. This is where you can find your course reserves and check out books.
  • Reference Desk: The desk across from the circulation desk. A librarian is available at the reference desk whenever the library is open and can help you with your research assignments.
