Resources for Faculty Emeriti

Library tools and tips for Rutgers faculty emeriti

Welcome to the guide dedicated to assisting Rutgers faculty emeriti with their continued access to the resources of Rutgers University Libraries, whether for research or pleasure.

Status: Who Qualifies?

If you believe you qualify for emeritus/a status, please verify your status with the department from which you retired.

Retiree ID Card

"Upon retirement, Retirees will receive a letter from University Human Resources (UHR) explaining how to get a Retiree RU ID card. Retiree RU ID cards can only be issued once this letter is presented from University Human Resources."

Verification for Library Use

Verification of your status as "Faculty Emeritus/a" takes place between the Rutgers retiree office and the Access Services department at Rutgers University Libraries. Once your status has been verified, and you have provided your NetID, Access Services will enable your library privileges for 5 years. This will not only allow you the same borrowing and interlibrary loan privileges as current faculty, but also off campus access to databases, electronic books, journals, and other restricted resources.

After 5 years, but prior to the expiration of your account, you should receive an email regarding renewal.
