Research guide for 50:163:460, taught by Dr. Wenhua Lu.

This guide was created to help you find scholarly journal articles in order to complete Assignment 1. The full text of Assignment 1 has been included on this page for reference.

Hopefully, the information on this guide will also prove useful to you in other courses, either this semester or as you move through your academic career. Finding, reading, and evaluating research is an immensely important part of becoming familiar with your discipline or subfield. The subject specialist librarians at the Paul Robeson Library specialize in research assistance and are always available to help you find high-quality and relevant sources that meet your needs.

Assignment 1

The research literature is often the best source for research topics and questions. For the research topic that you selected, search for two journal articles related to the research question that you formulated and answer the following questions:

  1. What is your research topic?

  2. What is your specific research question?

  3. What key terms did you use to search for the articles?

  4. Which database(s) did you use to search for the articles?

  5. What are the two articles that you identified? (Note: Make sure you cite the articles in APA style)

  6. What are the main purposes of the two studies that you identified?

  7. Briefly describe the characteristics of the studies and participants (e.g., study setting, participant characteristics such as age, gender, health status).

  8. What are the main conclusions in the studies related to your research question? Are there differences/similarities in the main conclusions between the two studies?
