American masters: I. M. Pei : building China modern c2010

I. M Pei, Eugene B Shirley, Anne Makepeace , Brian Funck, Charles Jencks, John B Cobb, Pacem Distribution International, Independent Television Service, South Carolina Educational Television Network, China Intercontinental Communication Center, New River Media (Firm), and Bullfrog Films

"Entering the twilight of his career, Pei returns to his ancestral home of Suzhou, China to work on his most personal project do date. He is commissioned to build a modern museum in the city's oldest neighborhood which is populated by classical structures from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The enormous task is to help advance China architecturally without compromising its heritage. In the end, what began as his greatest challenge and a labor of sentiment, says Pei, ultimately becomes 'my biography'"--Container. 1 videodisc (53 min.) :

Antonio Gaudai c2008

Hiroshi Teshigahara,  Noriko Nomura, Isidre Puig Boada, Seiji Miyaguchi, Arata Isozaki, Robert Hughes, Mandy Chang, Ken Russell, Janus Films, T?oh?o Kabushiki Kaisha, Teshigahara Productions, British Broadcasting Corporation, and Criterion Collection (Firm)

"Everything comes from the great book of Nature; human attainments are an already printed book."--Gaudi, end title screen. The Catalan architect, ceramist, and sculptor united Neo-Gothic mysticism and grandeur with Art Nouveau lines, combined with a surreal apprehension of the power of nature. Less of a documentary than a tribute, Teshigahara's film becomes a place to get lost, a radically hypnotic travelogue that's completely symbiotic with its subject. Almost wordless, this visual rhapsody is accompanied by music from composer Toru Takemitsu, whose free-floating East-meets-West impressionism and organic flow mimics the sprouting curvilinear shapes of Gaudi's buildings. 2 videodiscs (72 min.)

Biophilic design the architecture of life c2011

Biophilic design is an innovative way of designing the places where we live, work, and learn. People need nature in a deep and fundamental fashion, but we have often designed our cities and suburbs in ways that both degrade the environment and alienate us from nature. The recent trend in green architecture has decreased the environmental impact of the built environment, but it has accomplished little in the way of reconnecting us to the natural world, the missing piece in the puzzle of sustainable development. The film features buildings that connect people and nature-- hospitals where patients heal faster, schools where children's test scores are higher, offices where workers are more productive, and communities where people know more of their neighbors and families thrive. 1 videodisc (62 min.)

Hemelse modder architectuur en magie in West-Afrika = Heavenly mud : architecture and magic in Mali c2003

Ton van der Lee, AVRO (Firm), Jokestar Film (Firm), and Filmakers Library, inc

"This unique film takes us on a journey down the Niger River in Mali (West Africa) filled with rarely seen traditional African architecture. These edifices are as visionary as anything conceived by Gaudi in the 20th century.  The power and striking beauty of African architecture is immediately apparent...  The film compares ancient African architecture to twentieth century "organic" architecture as practiced by Frank Lloyd Wright and Antonio Gaudi. A famous Dutch organic architect, Max van Huut , believes modern Western architecture has contributed to alienation, whereas contemporary organic architecture, with its more human scale, contributes to a sense of community"--Container. 1 videodisc (52 min.)
