Voting 2020: Fact Checking

This is a Voting 2020 guide for the Rutgers community.

This is a nonpartisan, nonprofit “consumer advocate” for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics. They monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews and news releases.

PolitiFact is owned by the nonprofit Poynter Institute for Media Studies. PolitiFact focuses on looking at specific statements made by politicians and rating them for accuracy and is run by the editors and journalists who make up the PolitiFact team. is non-profit and non-partisan organization. It's a comprehensive resource for federal campaign contributions, lobbying data and analysis.

The purpose of this column is to “truth squad” the statements of political figures regarding issues of great importance, be they national, international or local. They also seek to explain difficult issues, provide missing context and provide analysis and explanation of various “code words” used by politicians, diplomats and others to obscure or shade the truth.
