The Paul Robeson Library's Student Advisory Board is a group of student volunteers who act as advocates for the larger student body to help the library improve services, spaces, and resources.

What is the Library Student Advisory Board?

About Us 

The Library Student Advisory Board is a group of student volunteers who are passionate about their campus library and want to include students’ perspectives in the functioning and quality of library programs and services. Board members work closely with librarians and library staff to generate new ideas and improve existing ones. The Board acts as advocates for the larger student body.  

The mission of the Board is to promote student success and engage the campus community by liaising between the Rutgers student body and the librarians and library staff. The objectives of the Board are: 

  • Facilitate communication between students and librarians to develop and improve the library’s services to students, such as programming, collections, space, and more. 
  • Students will gain valuable professional development in areas of marketing, project management, program development, and assessment after completing a term on the Advisory Board.  

Members of the Advisory Board are selected in the Spring semester. All interested students must fill out an application and undergo an interview. If selected, a member serves on the Board for one year

Responsibilities of membership

  • Meet with the Board at least three times a semester (meeting schedules will be determined by the memberships’ availability); 
  • Provide feedback to the library about currently library services for students; 
  • Answer peer questions about the library; 
  • Volunteer at library events and programs as schedule permits; 
  • Generate and share ideas for library workshops, programming, exhibits, policies, etc.; 
  • Help to plan and promote library events; and
  • Represent the library to the campus community.
