RefWorks

RefWorks is a relatively easy-to-use citation management tool. A citation manager lets you save all of your research, citations to articles and other sources, in one place and keep it well organized. And when it comes time to type your paper, the better citation managers, like RefWorks, will  let you select citations from your account, insert them as references into your text, and generate your bibliography.

Other citation tools and tips

EndNote is another citation manager free to you as a Rutgers student. There is a desktop version as well as a web version. Like RefWorks, it will create references and a bibliography from citations you select and import from your account.

Zotero is an open-source citation manager. Like RefWorks, it will create references and a bibliography from citations you select and import from your account. One useful feature is the Zotero Connector that allows you to save a citation to directly from your browser.

QuickSearch and most article databases will export to RefWorks, EndNote,Zotero, and other citation managers. For example, if you are searching in an EBSCO database, select and add citations to your folder; in your folder, click Export. In QuickSearch or a ProQuest database, check off the sources you want to export, then click the ellipse (...) in the upper right.

QuickSearch and most article databases will also produce a citation of a source you've found, in MLA, APA and many other citation styles. In the brief or full record of a book or article, look for a link that says cite or a similar term, or an icon, such as a quotation mark: ".
