Using the Catalogs
Why check both the Library Catalog
- Some materials, e.g. videos, at Rutgers are only uploaded into
WorldCat once a year.
- Some materials are never uploaded, e.g.
electronic books since our contract with the vendor won’t allow access outside
No system is perfect and some items get missed
in large uploads from one organization to another.
A new search interface that covers books as well as articles. QuickSearch incorporates/replaces the Rutgers Library catalog.
Searches RUL holdings but allows Boolean searches and provides facets for limiting by format, date, language, etc. Strongly recommended for more effective searching.
Global catalog of library collections allowing researchers to identify materials beyond Rutgers collections.
Center for Research Libraries
Houses more than 4 million volumes of research materials that are rarely held in North American libraries (including foreign dissertations and newspapers). Because the Rutgers is a member of the Center, materials are available to Rutgers users via interlibrary loan or by onsite visits to the reading room in Chicago.
