The Modern School

About this guide

This guide will help with research on the Modern School movement during the early and mid-twentieth century. It will also be helpful for research on the broader anarchist movement in the United States during the same time period. This guide includes a range of sources on the Modern School, including journal articles, dissertations, archival materials, interviews, and books. These sources discuss key anarchist leaders, the Modern Schools of New York and Stelton, the Ferrer Colony, and everyday life for the students.

Thank you to Danielle Bodner, public history intern in the Rutgers Department of History, for her work on this guide.
