PolitiFact is owned by the nonprofit Poynter Institute for Media Studies. PolitiFact focuses on looking at specific statements made by politicians and rating them for accuracy and is run by the editors and journalists who make up the PolitiFact team.
Snopes.com is an independent publication owned by Snopes Media Group. Snopes’ fact-checking and original, investigative reporting produces evidence-based and contextualized analysis. It’s the oldest and largest fact-checking site online, widely regarded by journalists, folklorists, and readers as an invaluable research companion.
The purpose of this column is to “truth squad” the statements of political figures regarding issues of great importance, be they national, international or local. They also seek to explain difficult issues, provide missing context and provide analysis and explanation of various “code words” used by politicians, diplomats and others to obscure or shade the truth.
