General Chemistry Lab

Introduction

This guide was put together with the goal of helping students the Rutgers Newark General Chemistry Lab course get started with finding scientific articles on a topic of their choice. It is intended to serve as an asynchronous library research 'session.'

By no means is this an exhaustive guide to doing research, so if you have any questions, please Joanne Dera, RU-N Science Librarian (her contact information is along the right column) or Ask-A-Librarian.

Learning Objectives

Students will learn how to find – and cite – a scientific article on a topic of their choice using a Rutgers-subscribed index/database (i.e., Scopus). Upon completion of this asynchronous library research session, students will be able to:

  1. execute an effective search in the Scopus index/database in order to find articles about a topic
  2. locate the full-text of a journal article, whether or not it is owned or subscribed to by Rutgers University Libraries
  3. cite an article following ACS style
  4. evaluate sources
