Introduction to Research for English 102

Welcome to Introduction to Research for English 102. This class will prepare you to complete research papers for Instructor Samuel Hutchings' class, as outlined in the assignment handout.

Mission Statement

The mission of bibliographic instruction is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to do scholarly research. As students of Sam Hutchings' Spring 2019 English 102 Classes, your mission is to take what you learn today and put it into practice in completing your assignments. Even then, the mission is far from over. As undergraduates, you will find that these skills will frequently be put to use since what you learn here can be applied to many other classes. Once you have the basics down, it will be up to you to continue to practice these skills.

After attending this class, students will be able to:

  • Develop a research plan
  • Evaluate information sources
  • Know how use the QuickSearch Library Catalog to find books and other materials
  • Know how to use research databases to find articles and other materials
  • Know how to prepare quick bibliographies in MLA style
  • Know where to go and who to talk to when you need research assistance
