Boot Camps for Graduate Student Success

Information related to the Boot Camps that are provided to Rutgers University-Newark graduate students by the Graduate School-Newark, John Cotton Dana Library, Learning Center, and Writing Center thanks to funding received from the Chancellor's Seed Grant

Introduction

Rutgers University-Newark graduate students are invited to participate in one or more of our six differently themed Boot Camps:

  1. Literature Research Skills (2 days)
  2. Writing & Publishing Skills (2 days)
  3. Grant Skills (1 day)
  4. Data Skills (2 days)
  5. Presentation Skills (1 day)
  6. Research Impact & Promotion (1 day)

Intended to provide attendees with intense, rigorous training, the Boot Camps are either one or two full-day affairs (indicated in parentheses above). Registration for boot camps will be limited to 20 or 30, depending on the boot camp. Those who complete a Boot Camp will receive a Certificate of Completion presented by the Graduate School-Newark. Lunch will be provided.

For more information about each boot camp and to register, click on the appropriate (red) tab above.* Please note that the registration process includes a pre-boot camp assessment form that takes 5-10 minutes to complete. If it turns out you are unable to attend a boot camp you have registered for, you must let us know a week in advance so that your seat can be given to someone on the wait list. Those who do not do so will have lower priority for future boot camps. Thank you for understanding.

Boot camps will be offered in January 2017, May 2017, August 2017, January 2018, and May 2018. See the individual tabs for an idea of when each boot camp will be offered. Specific dates, times, and locations will be provided as soon as they are available. Students may attend each boot camp only once.

Please note that each themed boot camp will be recorded at least once and the recordings made available online for anyone unable to attend in person. This means those attending a boot camp may be part of the recording and are agreeing to this when they register (and this will be stated on the registration form for that boot camp).
