HistoryMakers is an extensive video database of interviews, oral histories of leaders in the African American community. Dozens of Panthers and others connected in various ways with the party are included. The interviews are very extensive and each is broken down into short segments, "stories." There are two ways to search:
- The initial search page, after you connect, searches the stories. Search for Black Panther as a phrase, with the wildcard to get the singular and plural, and add additional terms to search with the plus sign. For example:
"black panther*" + politic*
There are limits to the left of your search results, including gender. To return the the stories search page, click Home in the menu at the top.
- To search for HistoryMakers connected with the party, click Maker Directory in the menu at the top. You can search in full text in the search box in the upper right. And/or you can also your search with the filters on the left, by name for example. For each HistoryMaker, all of the stories in their interviews will be listed. On the left, you'll see a brief bibliography and favorites quotes, favorite foods, etc. There are ninety stories for Angela Davis and, in case you were wondering, her favorite food is scrambled tofu.
