Psychology Research Methods (21:830:302): Overview

A guide to library research

Ask a Librarian for Help

There are several ways to seek help from a librarian:

Introduction

This guide was put together with the goal of helping students in Dr. Christina Zambrano-Varghese’s Fall 2020 Psychology Research Methods course get started with finding peer-reviewed journal articles for their research project.  It is intended to complement and supplement the October 2020 library research instruction session.

By no means is this an exhaustive guide to doing research, so if you have any questions, please get in touch with Bonnie Fong (her contact information is along the right column) or Ask-A-Librarian.

Learning Objectives

Students will learn how to find peer-reviewed journal articles using the APA Psycinfo database. Upon completion of the session, students will be able to:

  1. execute an effective search in the APA Psycinfo database in order to find peer-reviewed journal articles about their topic
  2. employ an efficient search in Google Scholar for articles about their topic
  3. determine if an article is published in a peer-reviewed journal
  4. identify the different methods to access the full-text of an article
  5. locate APA style citations in APA Psycinfo and Google Scholar
