This is the best index, with full text of articles, on business topics, including companies and industries. You can also access it with your local public library card barcode through http://www.jerseyclicks.org, thanks to funding by the NJ State Library.
ProQuest Statistical Abstract of the United States
Statistical Abstract of the the U.S. is the best place to start your search for statistical information. It includes federal U.S., state and some local data as well as some international. It is consistent over the years. Tables offer time series as well as cross-tabulation of factors. All tables cite sources, so it will tell you who has the updated data. ProQuest started publishing it in 2013. Earlier editions published by the Census Bureau 1878-2011, are available as pdf files at http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/past_years.html. There are also several Historical Statistics of the United States editions of composite data available from the links above.
U.S. Census Bureau
Includes the Economic Census of the U.S., County Business Patterns, NAICS & SIC codes and other federal statistical sources on industry performance and structure.
NAICS & SIC
Use this to determine the most appropriate NAICS code to describe the industry within which your company falls. Note that the code is revised every five years, and that although long since replaced, some directories and sources still use SIC numbers instead. Concordances, in left menu, will get you to the corresponding previous code.
Offers product and industry market research reports covering US and International marketplaces which combine data and analysis of the competitive landscape, supply chain, market-share size and trends, and consumer profiles. Original research reports compiled by Mintel, with selected data from consumer survey research firms such as Simmons National Consumer Surveys and Harris Interactive, as well as retail sales figures from Information Resources, Inc. and trade associations.
