Trademarks protect words, names, symbols, sounds, or colors that distinguish goods and services from those manufactured or sold by others and indicate the source of those goods. Trademarks can be renewed for as long as they are being used in commerce.
Since 1989, the Library of Science and Medicine (LSM) has been a depository library for United States patents and trademarks. LSM has a complete collection of facsimile images of United States trademark registrations (USAMARK) on DVD-ROM. The collection is accessible on the CASSIS2 computer workstation in the LSM reference area.
The Patent and Trademark Resource Center Association maintains a comprehensive list of online resources for patents and trademarks. This list includes links to the intellectual property offices of various foreign countries as well as the United States Patent and Trademark Office. A list of trademark databases with full descriptions of their coverage is also available. Click on "Online Resources" in the Navigation sidebar on the left side of their home page, or use the search button at the top right of the page to search "trademarks".
