Rutgers University Libraries

Physics and Astronomy: Find Books

Tips

  • If you find the Rutgers online catalog and E-ZBorrow too limiting, consider searching WorldCat for books.
  • In addition to E-ZBorrow and interlibrary loan, Rutgers participates in Cooperative Access Arrangements.

Interested in browsing the shelves?

If you are interested in browsing the shelves of the library for books, keep in mind the Library of Congress classification system:

Section of Library Topic
QB Astronomy
QC Physics
QC 251-338.5 Heat
QC 350-467 Optics. Light
QC 450-467 Spectroscopy
QC 501-766 Electricity and magnetism
QC 770-798 Nuclear and particle physics. Atomic energy. Radioactivity
QC 801-809 Geophysics. Cosmic physics
QC 811-849 Geomagnetism
QC 851-999

Meteorology. Climatology including the Earth's atmosphere

What if the book is located at another Rutgers library?

If the book you want is not available in your library, but is available through another Rutgers library, you can have it delivered to you at your library, free of charge.  From within the library catalog, click on the Book Delivery / Recall button on the upper-right.

What if Rutgers doesn't own the book you want?

If none of Rutgers' libraries own the book you want (or it's already been checked out by someone else), first see if it is available through E-ZBorrow.  If not, see if it is available through UBorrow.  If you are unsuccessful in finding the book in both systems, request an Interlibrary Loan.

Selected Reference Books

Reference books such as encyclopedias are a great place to do some preliminary research.  You can get a good overview about your topic, perhaps narrow down your topic if it was too broad before, and most importantly, identify seach terms to use when you begin your search for books and/or articles.

Here are some PRINT reference works:
