Getting to the Article from a Library Database

Some databases provide the full text of an article, while others provide only citations or abstracts. If you don't see the PDF icon or linking to the full text of an article, click the Get it @ R button.

If Rutgers has electronic availability to the article, you will gain access.

If the article is not available at Rutgers, you will be able to request an electronic copy be emailed to you through an "Article Delivery" link.

Click on the tabs below to view how to handle each of the scenarios.

  • Search for the book using QuickSearch.
  • Click on the title to look at the book record.
  • On the book record page, scroll down and click Sign in, using your NetID and password (same as your Rutgers email account.)
  • Once you are signed in, under the "Find in Library" section, you will see an EZBorrow request button for the book.
  • Click the button and use the "Request" button on the EZBorrow page.  Select Rutgers from the drop-down menu as your institution and click Submit, then scroll down below the book title and click the "Request" button again.
  • Specify your preferred pickup library, or select "Home Delivery (address required)" to have the book mailed to you.
  • If you select to send to a library, you will receive the item in 3-5 business days and may check it out for twelve weeks.  If you select home delivery, you will be asked to confirm your address by email and should receive the item(s) within two weeks.  You don't have to fill out any other fields on the Confirm request form.
  • Click Confirm request.
  • Visit the Interlibrary Loan page at https://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/find-access-and-request-library-materials/borrow-other-libraries-interlibrary-loan
  • Scroll down toward the bottom of the page and select "Search EZBorrow" (https://ezborrow.reshare.indexdata.com).
    • Log in with your NetID and password (same as your Rutgers email account).
    • In the box on the upper left, search for your book on the EZBorrow page. (If the book is not available via EZBorrow, use the instructions for "I want a book BUT Rutgers doesn't have it AND it's not available via EZBorrow" below).
    • Click the "Request" button on the EZBorrow page and select Rutgers as your institution, then click the "Request" button again.
    • Specify your preferred pickup library, or select "Home Delivery (address required)" to have the book mailed to you.

  • Scroll down and select "Log in to ILLiad with your NetID": https://www-rulill-rutgers-edu.proxy.libraries.rutgers.edu/illiad/RULILL/cas/illiad.dll.
  • You need to log in with your NetID and password (same as your Rutgers email account).
  • If you have not used ILLiad before, you will have to fill out a brief registration form including selecting the delivery location for your preferred pickup library. You can also choose "Home Delivery (address required)" to have books mailed to you. If you have used the system before and want to update this selection, choose "Profile" from the red menu bar at the top of the page, then select "Update Profile".
  • Choose the "New Requests" option in the red menu bar at the top of the page, then select "Book Request".
  • Enter the book information in the form and click the "Submit Request" button at the bottom of the page.
  • Interlibrary loan requests via ILLiad vary in delivery times based on the library that lends the item, but you may check out the material for up to 16 weeks.

  • Scroll down and select "Log in to ILLiad with your NetID":https://www-rulill-rutgers-edu.proxy.libraries.rutgers.edu/illiad/RULILL/cas/illiad.dll
  • If you have not used ILLiad before, you will have to fill out a brief registration form including selecting the Delivery Method for your preferred pickup library. Articles will always be delivered electronically; choose the library location you visit most frequently.
  • Select "New Request" from the red menu bar at the top of the page, then select "Article Request".
  • Enter the article citation information in the form, or use the DOI number (e.g. 10.1080/01411899908574762) to fill out the form automatically.
  • Click the "Submit Request" button at the bottom of the page.
  • Once your article has been received (look under "View - Electronically Reviewed Articles"), you have 21 days to print it or save it before it is deleted.
  • Search for the book or journal title in QuickSearch and click the title of the book or journal to access the record page.
  • Scroll down to "Sign in for request options" and click Sign in on the record page if you have not already, using your NetID and password (same as your Rutgers email account).
  • Once you have signed in, you will see a "Digitization" button appear. Click the Digitization button.
  • Enter the information for the item you would like digitized including the article or chapter title and page numbers.
  • Click "SEND DIGITIZATION REQUEST" to submit your request.
  • You should receive the digital scan by email within 3-5 business days.
