Newspaper articles are available in both large databases with multiple newspapers and the individual web sites of many national and local newspapers. You may have to create a free account on these sites. You may find titles only, for full text, please check QuickSearch, too.

Remember that newspaper articles, unlike scholarly articles, might be biased.

Start with QuickSearch on the RUL home page

• Enter your search term(s), you will get a list of results.
• Under "Limit to" select Available Online
• Under "Resource Type" select Newspaper Articles
• Select any title from the results list to view the complete details for that item including the link for online access.

Access World News a comprehensive collection of reliable news sources covering a wide array of topics and issues. Rutgers restricted (log in with your NetID off site).

Use keywords that best match your topic to search this large database.

• We recommend using Lead/First paragraph from the Select a Field pull-down menu to get the most relevant resources.
• Combine your synonyms with OR to expand search. -- Use AND to narrow your search.
• Not happy? Start all over with new or modified keywords.

Use the Source Location function to narrow down your search to geographical locations. Results are sorted in chronological order.

Research is an iterative process. It involves locating and assessing the information. As your research topic evolves, you may want to come back and run more searches to your ideas and support your thoughts.

Access World News has a list of "Suggested Topics", with many environmental subjects listed. These will take you to the results of canned searches on a variety of issues, including articles from national, local, and college newspapers, magazines and journals, as well as blogs and other web resources.

TIPS 

• Feel free to modify the search in the search boxes for your class requirement.
• You can even use the Create Alert function to hear the latest news in the next few weeks.

Factiva, an archive of major global newspapers, magazines, reports, and other publications, focusing on business, might look like coming with a steep learning curve, but it is by all means most useful for locating and browsing content for your paper.

TIPS

• Rather than trying the default free text search, you may get quick results with the user-friendly Search Form, which also comes with the option of expanding the date (only 3 month by default).
• Use the Source function (both NOT and REMOVE) to narrow your search down to a particular newspaper or author. You can use the + sign to locate a source or start typing to get the autofill function.
• Sorting is available by relevance or time (under More Options, bottom of the page).

BROWSE LATEST ISSUES OF MAJOR US NEWSPAPERS

Factiva News Pages (second tab from the right, choose Factiva pages) provide a great opportunity to browse the most recent issues of major national newspapers, such as the Wall Street Journal, the New York, Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, Forbes, USA Today, and more.

Select "United States" in the pull down  menu on the top left of the page to get the above newspapers in your feed.
