Ask-A-Librarian

There are several ways to seek help from a librarian:

Rutgers Libraries Toolbar

The Rutgers University Libraries Toolbar is a free Firefox extension (or add-on) that:

  • provides a drop-down menu to library resources
  • embeds library links on popular Websites such as Amazon.com
  • offers special functionality when you highlight terms on a Website and right-click over them with your mouse
  • allows linking from ISBNs, ISSNs, PubMed IDs, and DOIs to Rutgers-restricted online resources
  • is easy to install and easy to use

Introduction

This guide was put together with the goal of helping graduate students in the Earth & Environmental Sciences department with doing the kind of research required of them as they complete their Master's or Ph.D. degree(s).  It is intended to complement and supplement the May 15, 2012 "Optimizing the Library Resources in Research" session during the retreat at HEnRI.

By no means is this an exhaustive guide to doing research, so if you have any questions, please Ask-A-Librarian!  And if you would like to get in touch with Bonnie Fong, her contact information is along the right column.

Learning Objectives

After attending the May 15, 2012 library session, students will be able to:

  • identify who their personal librarian is and know how to contact her for research assistance
  • get ahold of materials within and outside of the Rutgers University Libraries (RUL) system
  • utilize Web of Science to follow the citation thread
  • set up alerts for new journal issues and/or search topics
  • manage their literature searches using RefWorks
