Week 1 H.W. assignment

Perform at least one search within each of the databases we talked about on 9/14/2011:

  • Academic Search Premier
  • Science Reference Center
  • ScienceDirect

Take a look at the 4 encylcopedias mentioned in class on 9/14/2011:

  • Encyclopedia of Supramolecular Chemistry 
  • e-EROS Encyclopedia of Reagents for Organic Synthesis 
  • Sax's Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials
  • World of Microbiology and Immunology

These assignments are intended to allow you to become more familiar with the various interfaces, to see what can be done with each resouce, to recognize how each source may be limited.

Week 2 H.W. assignment

Perform at least one search within each of the 7 databases we talked about on 9/14/2011 and 10/12/2011 (links are below)

Also take a look at the 5 encylcopedias mentioned in class on 9/14/2011 (list is above)

For each of these resources, note:

  • what type(s) of information can be found
  • how it could have been useful for you in an undergraduate or graduate course
  • how it can be useful for you now and in the future

Please bring your answers to the next session (to share with everyone).
