Questions to consider:

  1. What are the country's size, population, GNP, natural resources, climate and geography?
  2. What about its political climate and regulatory environment: are they favorable or restrictive toward business?
  3. What about the country's major economic drivers or disadvantages?
  4. Check out the country's demographics and demand for products.
  5. What are the country's largest markets? Import versus export behavior?

Resources:

  • Use  Business Source Premier to find country reports. Search with your country name in the first box and the phrase "foreign investments" in the second box. Then select 'Country Reports' from the left menu. (Rutgers-restricted access)
  • Locate the  EIU.com Country Commerce report for your country. You will find information on rules of competition, licensing, taxation, labor, and foreign trade. (Rutgers-restricted access)
  • Look for appropriate Country Commercial Guides prepared by U.S. Federal Government agencies.
  • Consider using the databases for "Country Statistics" and "Market Data Analytics" on  MarketLine for economic and demographic indicators as well as market data on consumer products. (Rutgers-restricted access)
